A multiple-pane insulating glazing unit may include multiple panes of transparent material and a layer of electrically controllable optically active material that provides controllable privacy for the glazing unit. Despite efforts to fully black out the multiple-pane insulating glazing unit by switching the optically active material from a transmissive state to a privacy state, the glazing unit may exhibit some residual direct visible transmission. In some examples, the multiple-pane insulating glazing unit may include a light emitting element positioned to direct light at the layer of optically active material to address this issue. Light emitted by the light emitting element may reflect and mask residual visibility through the electrically controllable optically active material.

Certain example embodiments relate to vacuum insulating glass units having edge seals formed in connection with solder alloys that, when reactively reflowed, wet metallic coatings pre-coated on the glass substrates' perimeters, and/or associated methods. The alloys may be based on materials that form seals at temperatures that will not de-temper glass and/or decompose a laminate, and/or remain hermetic and lack porous structures in their bulks. Example alloys may be based on inter-metallics of Sn and one or more materials selected from post-transition metals or metalloids; Zintl anions (e.g., In, Bi, etc.) from Group 13, 14, 15, or 16; and transition metals (e.g., Cu, Ag, Ni, etc.); and excludes Pb. Thin film coatings in certain example embodiments work with the solder material to form robust and durable hermetic interfaces. Because low temperatures are used, certain example embodiments can use compliant and visco-elastic spacer technology based on lamellar structures and/or the like.

A supply frame for a tower, a wind turbine tower and related methods include use of annular or annular segment-shaped prefabricated concrete parts to support internal tower structures. Supply frame modules may form a self-supporting unit that can be attached in suspended fashion to an upper prefabricated concrete part of the tower. The supply frame may have a framework-like grid structure stabilized by traction forces from its own weight and live load.

An apparatus attachable to an extension ladder is provided having a single leg extendable in a direction perpendicular and adjacent to the two lowest rungs of an extension ladder, a channel bar sized to receive a substantial length of a lowest rung of the ladder, and a hook for latching onto a next to lowest rung of the ladder. A foot pivotally mounted to the leg at one end thereof supports the leg onto or at least partially into a level or non-level surface. A step member extends from the leg at an angle. When the ladder is extended upwards by a user, a removable arm member is received through a holder of the leg to lie against a user's leg to provide stability and prevent spinning. The apparatus when attached to the lowest two rungs elevates the ladder to be non-contact with the level or non-level surface.
